Laguna Saquicocha

Laguna Saquicocha is a high mountain lagoon at an elevation of 4.397m (14,425ft) above the sea level, located in the Ancash Region of Peru.

The gravel road to the summit is bumped. It is subject to winter snowfalls with such a high summit altitude, and it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. 4wd vehicle required. After rain, even a single rainfall, conditions of the road can be challenging. Watch out for sudden loose-gravel breaks. The road is pretty steep. Starting from AN-111 road, the ascent is 4km long via 12 hairpin turns. Over this distance the elevation gain is 276 meters. The average gradient is 6.90%.
