The lagoon is located south of Waqrawiri, in Orcopampa District of Castilla Province, in the southern part of the country.

Set high in the Wansu mountain range of the Andes, the road is totally unpaved and not easy. It comprises narrow parts, dangerous drops and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

The road to the lagoon is 33km long, running north-south from Iñapata to AR-647 Road, via Jatun Puñuna.
