Abra Cuncush
The Cuncush Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.601m (15,095ft) above the sea level, located in the in the Ancash Region of Peru.
The road to the summit, located within the Cordillera Huayhuash, is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. The road is usually impassable in winters. Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. The drive offers spectacular open views of the wild mountains of Huayhuash. Open to all motorized vehicles, however, recommended for 4-wheel drive vehicles. Stay away if you're scared of heights. Expect a trail pretty steep. Wet conditions may make for tough driving along the muddy road. This is a high altitude trip and can be rigorous at times but worth the effort. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. Most people feel altitude sickness at around 2,500-2,800 meters. Near the pass, oxygen is in short supply.
