Located in the northern part of the country, the road runs from Púsac (at 1,434m above sea level) to Uchumarca (at 3,684m above sea level). It’s 34.1 km (21.18 miles) long, carved mostly out of the side of a steep mountain.

Is the Road from Pusac to Uchumarca unpaved?

The road is totally unpaved, quite narrow and steep. It is bordered by drops of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) with no guardrails for protection. Avoid traveling this road in severe weather conditions.

What is Cuesta de Uchumarca?

The most challenging part of the road is a short 4.9 km (3 miles) section featuring 16 hairpin turns. In this section, the elevation gain is 454m, with an average gradient of 9.26% and sections reaching up to 15%. The road and the scenery, however, are very impressive.
