The road from Cincha to Huanca: 200 curves and hairpin turns

Carretera Cincha-Huanca is a high mountain road located in the Andes of Peru, in the Caylloma Province, running entirely over the 2.500m above the sea level.

Carretera Cincha-Huanca

The road links Cincha and Huanca, two small towns. It’s 43.9 km (27.27 miles) long. The road features a high risk of avalanches and landslides. This road tests the skill, and courage, of any driver. It’s definitely not for anyone suffering from vertigo or a fear of landslides. The surface of the road gets worse progressively. It starts asphalted on Cincha. The road becomes then a single asphalted lane ending as a gravel mule track.

Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions. Expect more than 200 turns and hairpin turns. The road is really steep. Don’t stuff your belly too much. Eventually, you might feel vomiting temptations while climbing circuitous roads at higher altitudes. It tops out at 3.434m (11,266ft) above the sea level, at Abra de Rumualdo.
