The road to Salinas is one of the toughest tracks in the world

Camino a Salinas is a scary high mountain road between Arequipa and Lake Salinas, a salt lake in Peru. The road, officially called Ruta 34C, has a length of 61km. Arequipa is the capital and largest city of the province of Arequipa and the second most populous city in Peru.

The road is winding, in some places only wide enough for one vehicle, and in many places bordered on one side by cliffs and on the other side by a drop of hundreds of meters (many hundreds of feet) unprotected by guardrails. Words can’t describe the road and pictures don’t do it justice. To drive this trail, you must have supreme confidence in your vehicle and your driving skills.
