How to drive the defiant Puchka cliff canyon road

Where is Puchka cliff canyon?

The canyon is located in the northern part of the country, on the eastern slope of the Cordillera Blanca. Carved by the river Puchka, one of the main tributaries of the Marañón River, the canyon, also known as Garganta del Diablo (Devil´s throat), becomes a deep gorge with almost vertical walls, ofering sweeping views. 

Is the road through Puchka cliff canyon paved?

The road through the gorges is called 14A. It was totally paved in 2019-2020. It is extremely narrow and challenging, with severe drops. The most challenging part of the drive, carved into cliffs, is about 3km (1.86 miles) long. The road ends at Puente Copuma (between Huánuco and Áncash junction).
