Set high in the Andean highlands, the curvy and dangerous road through the national reserve is totally paved. It’s called Route 30 A. The reserve was created to protect the high-altitude habitat of the threatened vicuña.

The road is 156 km (96.9 miles) long, running west-east from Nazca (in the Nazca Province on the southern coast of the country) towards Puquio (the capital of the province Lucanas in the region Ayacucho). The road features steep and curvy sections, topping out at 4.156m (13,635ft) above the sea level. Temperatures are usually very cold, so prepare for freezing nights if you're staying overnight, and possible rain between November and March.
