Abra Jahuaycate: The Ultimate Road Trip Guide

Abra Jahuaycate is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 5.065m (11,003ft) above the sea level, located in Pitumarca District of the province Canchis in Peru. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.

Set high in the Cordillera Carabaya mountain range, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called CU-124 (aka Ruta del Ausangate). It’s a resurfaced, and little used, dirt road with stunning alpine views. The road was improved between 2018 and 2019.
The pass road is 48.4km (30.07 miles) long, running west-east from Uchullujllo towards Cayena. The road is steep in parts, hitting an 11.8% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
