Alto de La Línea, a paved road in the Andes

Alto de La Línea is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.287m (10,787ft) above the sea level, located in the Cordillera Central or central range of the Andes mountains. The drive is really steep.

The road to the summit is called Ruta Nacional 40. It’s asphalted and links Cajamarca and Calarcá. The average gradient is 7,68%. Expect heavy trucks traffic. The pass will be bypassed by a tunnel called La Línea with 8,652 metres of length. Expect heavy traffic jams often.
