The road to the lakes is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. The road is usually impassable in winters. Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. 4x4 vehicle required. Starting from the village of Caquena (in the Arica and Parinacota Region of Chile), the trail is pretty steep. Thunderstorm activity can quickly change unpaved roads to four-wheel-drive condition or make them impassable.
