Road B-245
B-245 is a very scenic high mountain road located in the Andes mountains of northeastern Chile. The road offers great views of volcanoes and lakes.
The road is 176 km long. It links San Pedro, on Ruta 21, and San Pedro de Atacama. It’s a 4x4 track. The surface of the road is gravel. This trail passes through remote areas, so you need to be prepared. Stay on the track: danger, mine field. The highest point of the road is at 4.565m above the sea level. The climb is simply terrible, with a notorius lack of oxygen that tests the organisms and a high degree of steepness. Most people feel altitude sickness at around 2,500-2,800 meters. Do not travel this road in severe weather conditions.
