Located in the Atacama Region in northern Chile, the road is an amazing coastal drive.
The road is gravel. It’s 184km long and links Caldera in the Copiapó Province and Huasco in the Huasco Province. The surface on this gravel road is often loose, especially along the sides of the road. Due its unique location and passing through remote areas, it is important when driving in these conditions to be prepared. This track can get very muddy and slippery after rain making it challenging to get through. The track can get very badly affected by the floodings.
This is a maintained road where a high clearance 2WD vehicle is able to travel safely. The climate is mostly warm and extremely dry, because of its location on the Atacama desert's coast. But the temperatures are moderated by the cooling sea currents.
