Where Is Cerro Galán?

The volcano is located near the Salta Province, in the northwestern part of the country. It is one of the largest exposed calderas in the world.

Is the Road to Cerro Galán Unpaved?

The road to the volcano, part of the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, is totally unpaved. A 4x4 vehicle with high clearance is required. Very wide vehicles cannot pass through the road, as it is narrow in certain parts.

How Long Is the Road to Cerro Galán?

The road to the volcano is about 80km (50 miles) long, starting from El Peñón.

Can I Drive to Cerro Galán?

It’s not advisable to go alone, as it’s easy to lose the track. It’s recommended to arrange a guide through the tourist office.
