Dead Horse Point

Dead Horse Point is a natural viewpoint at an elevation of 1.814m (5,951ft) above the sea level, located in San Juan County,  in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Utah. The summit features a dramatic overlook of the Colorado River and Canyonlands National Park.

The road to the summit is asphalted. It’s called Utah 313. The road does get busier at weekends and in the main holiday season. Located within the Dead Horse Point State Park, it can get very hot during the summer. In winters expect freezing temperatures with the possibility of snow. The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. The view from the top is one of the most photographed scenic vistas in the world.

Starting from U.S. Highway 191, the road, also known as Dead Horse Point Scenic Road, is 36.21km (22.5 miles) long with 2 hairpin turns. The road is a delight to drive, with every kind of twist and turn. Towering 2,000 feet above the Colorado River, the overlook provides a breathtaking panorama of Canyonlands’ sculpted pinnacles and buttes.
