The peak, sometimes known as Yellow Mountain, is located south of Ophir, in the southwestern part of Colorado, within the San Juan National Forest.

Is the road to Yellow Mountain North unpaved?

The road is called Hope Lake Road. It’s an unpaved dirt road made of packed earth, loose soil, and small stones, running through open high-mountain grassland. It’s mostly straight. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

Is the road to Yellow Mountain North open year-round?

As is typical in the high San Juans, the route is not plowed and completely blocked by snow from fall until well into summer.
