The road is called Hope Lake Road. It’s an unpaved dirt road made of packed earth, loose soil, and small stones, running through open high-mountain grassland. It’s mostly straight. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

As is typical in the high San Juans, the route is not plowed and completely blocked by snow from fall until well into summer.
