How to get by car to Piney Lake in Colorado?

Piney Lake is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 2,864 m (9,396 ft) above sea level, located in Eagle County, in the US state of Colorado. It is one of the highest lakes in the state that you can drive to. The road is a bit rough.

The lake is located north of Vail, in the north-central part of Colorado. It is owned by the Denver Water Board, which bought it in the late 80s during the water shortage in Denver with the intention of filling a reservoir.

The road to the summit is unpaved. It’s called Piney River Road. Most two-wheel drive vehicles should be able to handle the drive just fine. Starting from the paved I-70, in Vail, the road is 18.3 km (11.4 miles) long.
