At the summit, there are several facilities: a campground, an observatory built in 1947 and owned and operated by the University of New Mexico (UNM), and a lookout tower built in 1960. There are great views of the Manzano Mountains, Rio Grande, and Estancia Valleys.

The road to the summit is totally unpaved but in pretty good condition. It’s a dirt road running through oak and aspens. It's a one-lane narrow road with fallen rocks.
