The hut is located east of Resolution Mountain, in the central part of Colorado, within the White River National Forest.

When was the Fowler-Hilliard Hut built?

The hut was originally constructed in the summer of 1988. It was named for Ann Fowler and Ed Hilliard, two mountaineers tragically killed in a climbing accident.

Is the road to Fowler-Hilliard Hut unpaved?

The road to the hut is totally unpaved. It’s very rough and 4-wheel drive is a must to make it in. Starting from Ptarmigan Road, near Ptarmigan Pass, the road to the hut is 496 m long only.

Is the road to Fowler-Hilliard Hut open year-round?

Set high in the Sawatch Range, the road is not plowed in winters. The route is snow free from June to October. Always be prepared for winter weather, even in summer.
