The peak is located in the southern part of California, within the San Bernardino National Forest.

Is the road to Snow Summit unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It is called Skyline Drive. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. It’s a narrow, unpaved mountain track with a surface of hard-packed decomposed granite and fine loose dirt. The road is a classic shelf road carved into a steep hillside with significant exposure and no guardrails on the downslope. The track is barely wide enough for a single vehicle. The trail spans the South Shore of Big Bear, running along a ridge that parallels Forest Service road 2N10, a heavily used Forest Service road.

Is the road to Snow Summit open year-round?

Set high in Snow Summit ski resort, in the San Bernardino Mountains, the road is impassable in winters.
