Carrizo Mountain

Carrizo Mountain is a mountain peak at an elevation of 661m (2,168ft) above the sea level, located in Imperial County, California, in USA.

Carrizo Mountain

Located in the Coyote Mountains  range, the bumped road to the summit is gravel and rocky. It’s called Carrizo Mountain Trail. Make sure you get your vehicle and yourself well-prepared before driving this road. 4wd vehicle required. Stay away if you're scared of heights. The road is usually closed from  Jan 1 to June 30. The summit offers some of the most expansive views in the entire California Desert.

The road is pretty narrow with drop offs (width enough for one vehicle to pass at a time). It is steep, with ledgy rock and outward leans. After rain, even a single rainfall, conditions of the road can be challenging. Watch out for sudden loose-gravel breaks. Rocky segments can make the drive difficult. An old mine road winds through Painted Gorge and up the hills to a turn-around about 300 feet below the summit.
