The peak is located in the east-central part of Nevada, within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called National Forest Development Road 574. It comprises narrow parts and steep sections. 4x4 vehicles only.

Starting from State Highway 486, the road is 15.77km (9.8 miles) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.067 meters. The average gradient is 6.76%.

Is the road to Cave Mountain open year-round?

Set high in the Snake Range, the road is not plowed in winters. It is usually impassable from October to June.
