The peak is located east of Elk City, in the north-central part of Idaho, within the Nez Perce National Forest.

At the summit there’s a lookout tower built in 1956 known as Green Mountain Lookout. It is frequently used on an emergency basis given the high fire frequency of the area.

The road to the summit is totally unpaved, with narrow parts and steep sections. It’s called NF-285, also known as Green Mountain Road. A high clearance vehicle is required.
