Broken Arrow Trail

Located on the border of Coconino and Yavapai counties, in the U.S. state of Arizona, Broken Arrow Trail is one of the most popular off-road trails in all of Arizona and offers one of Sedona’s most exhilarating off-road adventure.

Broken Arrow Trail

Located within the Coconino National Forest, the road is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. It’s 4 miles to Chicken Point and has an elevation gain of 300 feet. Great trail for experienced wheelers. Recommended inventory SUVs with higher ground clearance.
The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. The views along this trail are phenomenal. This is definitely one road trip that you want to record with lots of photographs. The trip offer 360-degree views featuring stunning Southwest wilderness. The road is a delight to drive, with every kind of twist and turn. It is extremely fun to drive and the red rock scenery is knock-out beautiful. Some of Hollywood’s westerns were filmed here, including Jimmy Stewart’s aptly named “Broken Arrow” (1950).

The road is very bumpy and not meant for average cars. It’s some what like an amusement ride. A 4WD vehicle and an experienced driver are required. Several large rock ledges require high ground clearance but the obstacles are not overwhelming because little articulation is required. One day the road can be ‘smooth and easy to drive’, the next, it can be full of washboards that will bounce you right over the edge if you aren't careful. The toughest obstacle is known as "The Measures," that is pushed downhill. This barrier is quite steep and will be intimidating to a inexperienced motorist. Road conditions are always changing. It can be a reasonably easy drive in favourable dry conditions, but also has the potential to be a very difficult muddy and slippery track -and at times impassable- after wet weather.
