Boathouse Cove Road

Located in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the road is gravel and rocky. It’s 7.3 miles long. The road runs from NV-167 (Northshore road) south to the Virgin Basin of Lake Mead. It can be a reasonably easy drive in favourable dry conditions, but also has the potential to be a very difficult muddy and slippery track -and at times impassable- after wet weather. Although the road starts out fairly flat and it’s a relatively easy trail, it does get more difficult, and a wheel drive may be required - a washed out rut that should be pretty easy to navigate.

The ride is rather remote, so you need to be prepared. In case of a breakdown, there is very little in the way of passing traffic or inhabitants around, and no cell phone service in parts. Winter months can be cold while Summer months are brutally hot. Temperatures can reach 120 degrees. Road conditions are always changing. If you decide to explore, be properly prepared. When you get to the end be careful don't get to close to the water. The ground is solid on top but once you break through the top crust you will be into deep slimy mud that you will need help getting out of.
The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. The trail offers great views of the desert landscape. An incredible journey, an unforgettable experience. This is definitely one road trip that you want to record with lots of photographs. There are also beautiful views of Lake Mead as you approach the end of the trail. Some wildlife may be observed.
