The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s a service road for a chairlift at Grand Targhee Resort. It’s narrow and very steep. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

Starting from the Grand Targhee Resort’s parking lot, the road to the summit is 4.4 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 531 m and the average gradient is 12.06%.

Is the road to Freds Mountain open year-round?

Set high in the Teton Range, the road is usually impassable from October through June.
