A steep old 4wd road to Ruby Mountain

Ruby Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3.607m (11,833ft) above the sea level, located in Summit County, in the U.S. state of Colorado. It’s one of the highest mountain roads of Colorado.

Nestled in the Rocky Mountains' Front Range, within the Arapaho National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s a drivable old 4wd mine road, but closed to motorized access. From the summit you may enjoy incomparable views of the surrounding area. 4x4 vehicle with high clearance required.

The road is very steep. Starting from Peru Creek Trail (Forest Service Road 260), the road is 966m (3,170ft) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 140 meters. The average gradient is 14.49%. It’s accessible from March until November. On the highest point of the trail, expect snow to linger here well into July. The lower part of the trail would be open earlier.
