Granite Peak is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 3,002 m (9,849 ft) above sea level, located in Madison County, in the U.S. state of Montana. It’s one of the highest roads in Montana.

The road to the summit is totally unpaved and pretty defiant, pretty steep, with narrow sections and dangerous drops. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

Starting from Pony, in northeastern Madison County, the road is 28.1 km (17 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1,400 m and the average gradient is 4.98%.

Is the road to Granite Peak open in winter?

Set high on the eastern edge of the Tobacco Root Mountains, the road is totally impassable in winter.
