The pass is located south of Austin, in the central part of Nevada, within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Is the road to Kingston Summit unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called NF-012 (Kingston Canyon Road). It features rocky parts and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. If you like solitude and stark desert beauty, this road has both.

How long is the road to Kingston Summit?

Starting from the paved NV-376, the road to the summit is 20.59km (12.8 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 872m (2,861 ft) and the average gradient is 4.23%.

Is the road to Kingston Summit open year-round?

Set high in the Toiyabe Range, the road is not plowed in winters. Best time is late June to about late September.
