The peak is located south of Ely, in the east-central part of Nevada, within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It features narrow parts, many turns and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

How long is the road to Hamels Peak?

Starting from Cave Valley Road, the road to the summit is 9 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 972m and the average gradient is 10.8%.

Is the road to Hamels Peak open year-round?

Set high in the Egan Range, the road is not plowed in winters.
