Bare Cone

Bare Cone is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.386m (7,828ft) above the sea level, located in Ravalli County, in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Montana. Elk, mule deer, badgers, coyotes, and black bears can be seen along the trail.

The road to the summit, located within the Bitterroot National Forest, is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. It’s called Forest Service road #1303. Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. 4x4 recommended. Stay away if you're scared of heights. Expect a trail pretty steep. Wet conditions may make for tough driving along the muddy road. At the summit there’s a fire lookout tower built in 1922, still in active service. It’s a popular motorized destination, motorcycle, quad 4-wheeler and auto.
