Gates Lake is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 3,172m (10,406ft) above sea level, located in Sevier County, in the U.S. state of Utah.

Where is Gates Lake?

The lake, set in a serene mountain setting, is located about 29 miles southeast of Salina, in the central part of Utah, within the Fishlake National Forest. It’s a great spot for a swim or fishing.

Is the road to Gates Lake unpaved?

The road to the lake is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 040, also known as Gates Lake Road. It can be rough and is not recommended for trailers. It is not suitable for passenger vehicles.

How long is the road to Gates Lake?

The road to the lake is 5.5 miles (8.85 km) long, running south-north from the paved Forest Road 640 to Harvs River Road. It's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while driving. It’s usually open from June through October.
