Hunter Lake is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 2.511m (8,238ft) above the sea level, located in Washoe County, in the U.S. state of Nevada.
Located in the Eastern Sierra just west of Reno, the trail to the lake is called Hunter Lake Jeep Road (FR 392). It’s gravel, rocky and steep. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). The views are awesome, and the area is beautiful. You should have no trouble getting any SUV with real 4×4 up it.
Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. Expect a trail pretty steep. The road is a but narrow for a full wife truck, but still doable. Thunderstorm activity can quickly change unpaved roads to four-wheel-drive condition or make them impassable.
