The peak is located north of Sliderock Mountain, in the southwestern part of Colorado.
How long is the road to Monument Hill?
The road to the peak is totally unpaved. It’s called County Road 204. It comprises narrow parts and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is required. Starting at Durango, the road to the summit is 29.29 km (18.2 miles). The drive is pretty steep: over this distance, the elevation gain is 1,248 meters.
Is the road to Monument Hill open in winter?
Set high in the San Juan Mountains, the road is totally impassable in winter. The weather can be unpredictable, and afternoon thunderstorms are common.
