The peak is located north of Mammoth Lakes, in the eastern part of California within the Inyo National Forest. At the summit there’s a big parking lot.

At the summit there’s a fire lookout built in 1963. The viewpoint is 360-degree providing views from Crowley Lake to Mono Lake.
Is the road to Bald Mountain unpaved?
The road to the summit, located, is totally unpaved, with sandy parts. It’s called Forest Road 2S162-Bald Mountain Road. Because of the sand on the road going up, a 4wd vehicle is recommended for the last part.

Starting from the paved US-395, the road to the summit is 18.02km (11.2 miles) long.
Is the road to Bald Mountain open year-round?
Set high in the Sierra Nevada, at the beginning of the Glass Mountain Range, the road is not plowed in winters.
