The peak is located north of Bakersfield, in the central part of California, within the Sequoia National Forest.

Why is there a road to Tobias Peak?

At the summit there’s a lookout tower built in 1935.

Is the road to Tobias Peak unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It features many narrow parts, steep sections and a sharp turn near the summit. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

How long is the road to Tobias Peak?

Starting from Forest Route 24S24, the road to the summit is 1.93km (1.2 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 161m (531 ft) and the average gradient is 8.34%. 

Is the road to Tobias Peak open year-round? 

Set high in the Sierra Nevada, the road is not plowed in winters.
