Where is Little Molas Lake?

The lake is located west of Molas Pass, in the western part of Colorado, south of the historic town of Silverton, within the San Juan National Forest. Swimming is not permitted in Little Molas Lake. 

Is the road to Little Molas Lake unpaved?.

The road to the lake is called Forest Road 584. It’s a gravel-surface forest road, a bit rough in parts. During good weather conditions, the lake can be reached by most cars, including 2WD and lower-clearance vehicles. Watch for livestock and wildlife, and keep speeds under 30 miles per hour. It is rather rough for larger vehicles, with large deep, awkwardly spaced potholes.

How long is the road to Little Molas Lake?

Starting from Molas Pass, on the U.S. Highway 550 (the Million Dollar Highway) the road to the lake is 0.9 mile long. At the end of the road there is a parking lot.

Is the road to Little Molas Lake open in winter?

Set high in the San Juan Mountains, the road is totally impassable in winters due to snow. It’s open from late May to mid-October, weather permitting.
