The peak is located in the northwestern part of Colorado within the Routt National Forest.

What’s at the summit of Mount Werner?

At the summit there’s a permanent research laboratory called Storm Peak Laboratory, built in order to make time-extended observations of cloud physics and cloud-aerosol chemistry.

Is the road to Mount Werner unpaved?

The rough road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s locally known as Transmitter Site Road. It’s a service road, closed to private vehicles. 4x4 vehicles only.

Is the road to Mount Werner open year-round?

Set high in the Park Range, the road is usually impassable from October through June.
