The peak is located in the northwestern part of Colorado, near the Wyoming border, within the Medicine Bow–Routt National Forests.
Is the road to Bears Ears Peak unpaved?
The road to the summit is totally unpaved and rough in places. It’s called County Road 4W. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Starting at County Road 2W, the ascent is 2.2 km (1.36 miles) long.
Is the road to Bears Ears Peak open in winter?
Set high in the Elkhead Mountains, the road usually doesn’t open until July.
