The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 631, also known as Piedra Road. It features narrow parts, many curves, 8 sharp hairpin turns and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

Is the road to Slide Mountain open year-round?
Set high in the rugged San Juan Mountains, at this elevation the road is totally impassable in winters due to heavy snowfalls in the area.
