The pass is located on the boundary between Hinsdale and Archuleta counties, in the southwestern part of Colorado.

Is the road to Slide Mountain unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 631, also known as Piedra Road. It features narrow parts, many curves, 8 sharp hairpin turns and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

How long is the road to Slide Mountain?

Starting from Pagosa Springs, the road to the summit is 75.6km (47.0 miles) long.

Is the road to Slide Mountain open year-round?

Set high in the rugged San Juan Mountains, at this elevation the road is totally impassable in winters due to heavy snowfalls in the area.
