The pass is located in the southern part of Montana, near the border with Wyoming.

Is the road to Sheep Mountain in Park County unpaved?

Set high in the Beartooth range, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s an old mining road. 4x4 vehicle required.  It’s usually impassable from November to May.

Is Sheep Mountain in Park County worth the drive?

Near the summit are only a few historic ruins left from the New World Mining District. The summit provides great views of the Beartooth Mountains in all directions.

How long is the road to Sheep Mountain in Park County?

It’s a pretty steep trail. Starting from US-212 (Beartooth Highway) the ascent is 11.90 km (7.4 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 801 meters. The average gradient is 6.73%.
