A memorable road trip to Paradise Basin

Paradise Basin is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.447m (11,309ft) above the sea level located in the Gunnison County, in Colorado, USA. It’s an easy drive near the summit of Schofield Pass.

Tucked in the Southwest corner of Colorado in the Rocky Mountains, the road to Paradise Divide is mostly unpaved. Starting at Crested Butte is paved for the first 3.6 miles and then turns into a dirt road. It’s called County Road 734. The road is wide and in good shape.

Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. It is not generally snow-free until late June or even July in some years.  Located within the White River National Forest, a 4WD vehicle is recommended but 2WD vehicles with good clearance and sturdy tires should be able to make it. The pass road is 23.01km (14.3 miles) long, running south-north from Crested Butte to Schofield Pass.
