Where is Boot Mountain?

The summit is located south of Moon Pass, in the south-central part of Colorado, within the Rio Grande National Forest.

Is the road to Boot Mountain unpaved?

The rough road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called County Road 26A. Starting from Hanna, the road comprises many steep and rocky sections, and narrow parts, often a shelf road. It’s very eroded and partly washed out.4x4 vehicles with high clearance required. 

How to drive the unpaved road to Milk Cow Pass and Mesa Mountain?

On the way to the summit, the road climbs up to Milk Cow Pass, a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.354m (11,004ft) above sea level, and Mesa Mountain, a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3471m (11,387ft) above sea level.

Is the road to Boot Mountain open year-round?

Set high in La Garita Mountains, the road is not plowed in winters.
