The pass is located in the southwestern part of Colorado, within the San Juan National Forest.

Is the road to Windy Gap unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Spruce Hill Road. The road features rocks, narrow parts and steep sections. A 4x4 vehicle is required.

How long is the road to Windy Gap?

Starting from Road 350, the road to the summit is 3.54km (2.2 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 164m (541 ft) and the average gradient is 4.63%.

Is the road to Windy Gap open year-round? 

Set high in La Plata Mountains of the San Juan Mountains, the road is not plowed in winters.
