The pass is located in the northern part of Wyoming, within the Bighorn National Forest.

Is Woodchuck Pass unpaved?

The road through the pass is totally unpaved with sharp, and broken rocks. It’s called Forest Road 226. It features 4 creek crossings only about foot or so deep one of which you can’t see the bottom due to all the sediment in it. It also has 3 gates which must also be opened and closed. High-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles only.

How long is Woodchuck Pass?

The road is 3.1 miles long, running north-south from Big Goose Road (Forest System Road 26) to Forest Road 278.

Is Woodchuck Pass open year-round?

Set high in the Bighorn Mountains, the road is not plowed in winters and typically accessible from late spring through late autumn.
