Travelling through the scenic Wawona Road

Wawona Road (Route 41) is a very rewarding journey with stunning views, located in Mariposa County, in the U.S. state of California. It’s a scenic drive with plenty of things to do along the way.

Located within the Yosemite National Park, Wawona Road (the continuation of Highway 41 inside the park), is totally paved. The road is 43.45km (27 miles) long and runs south-north from CA-41 near Wawona to to Southside Drive. It is accessible by car year-round, though tire chains may be required from October through April.

The most famous section of the road are the views from Wawona Tunnel, the longest highway tunnel in California at 4,233 feet (1.290m) long. Completed in 1933, the tunnel, dubbed Tunnel View, offers your first view of Yosemite Valley. The tunnel is two lanes total, one in each direction. This spot can be very popular in summer, so try to arrive early. It offers stunning views of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall.
