The narrow and winding road to Owyhee Lake

Owyhee Lake is a reservoir located in Malheur County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. The drive to the lake is beautiful, but on a narrow winding two lane road.

Owyhee Lake Road

Located in the Lake Owyhee State Park, in eastern Oregon, the road to the lake is called Owyhee Lake Road. It’s paved with very narrow parts and moderately steep. The drive is very scenic and picturesque with great views. Please drive cautiously: it’s a road without guard rails and elevated about 60 feet above the water.

The drive runs along the Owyhee River. Starting from Owyhee, the road is 36.69km (22,8 miles) long. It was built in the 1930’s. Along the drive there are many unlit and narrow tunnels. The road features a high risk of rockfalls. Mudslides produced by severe thunderstorms can block off the road in several places.
