How long is Morgan Territory Road?

Located on the east side of Mount Diablo in San Francisco East Bay, the road is 23.65km (14.7 miles) long, running north-south from Marsh Creek Road to Manning Road.

Is Morgan Territory Road challenging?

Tucked away in the Morgan Territory Regional Preserve, the one way road is fully paved, but extremely curvy and narrow in parts. The road tops put at 649m (2,129ft) above the sea level, and the pavement is poor on the north side of the summit. It was named after Anglo-American pioneer Jeremiah Morgan.

Legend holds that California bandit Joaquin Murrieta Carrillo buried stolen goods under an oak tree somewhere in the Morgan Territory next to this old logging road in the 1800s. In the 1950's a woman and her husband were on their way home from Livermore when they saw a spirit standing next to an oak tree off the side of the road searching for the treasure. From time to time people still report seeing the ghost on Morgan Territory Road but they can never find the spot again when they go back to look for the loot that is believed to be buried there. People still hunt for the hidden treasure. Murrieta is believed to have inspired the fictional character of Zorro.
