Dave Wood Road (County Road 15) is mostly unpaved. After climbing for about 7 miles the pavement ends. It’s passable to most vehicles, but four-wheel drive is recommended. There are limited shoulders on most but light traffic. Hazards to watch for would be loose gravel and varied paved surfaces.

Running parallel to Highway 550, the road is 31.22km (19.4 miles) long, running north-south from Montrose (the county seat of Montrose County) to Norwood (in San Miguel County).

Is Dave Wood Road in Colorado open?

Set high in the Uncompahgre National Forest, the road tops out at 2.830m (9,284ft) above the sea level. The road is only plowed to the Dave Wood Winter Recreation Area.
