Where is the Bayou Teche Scenic Byway?

Tucked away on the southwestern part of Louisiana, the scenic byway comprises LA 182 and LA 31. The picturesque road is totally paved. Located along the Bayou Teche National Water and Paddle Trail in the heart of the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area, the road winds its way through wetlands, rivers, and bayous, with some of the most impressive swamp landscapes in the world.

Where does the Bayou Teche Scenic Byway start and end?

Running through three parishes: St. Mary, Iberia and St. Martin, the drive is 125 miles (201km) long and runs from Arnaudville to Morgan City. The byway is home to an incredibly beautiful natural landscape looping along the path of a former channel of the Mississippi River. The drive follows closely along the banks of the region’s most popular waterway and national paddle trail, Bayou Teche. Along the way, watch the skies for eagles, hawks, and vultures wheeling on the thermals, and keep your eyes peeled for ‘gators in the mangroves on either side of the road.
